Spanning 10,100 km² (2.5 million acres), Last Frontier's Bell 2 tenure is the largest single heli ski tenure in the world. More important than its size, however, is where it's located.

Situated in northern British Columbia—farther north than almost every other heli ski operation in the province—Bell 2 benefits from a colder climate that produces copious amounts of high-quality snow and contributes to consistently reliable skiing throughout the winter.

Unlike most heli ski operations, Bell 2 sits between two distinct mountain ranges: the Boundary Ranges of the Coast Mountains to the west and the Skeena Mountains to the east. This gives guides access to two very different mountain environments—and the flexibility to ski whichever offers the best conditions each day.

The Coast Mountains are home to vast icefields, glaciers, granite peaks, and old-growth trees. Being closer to the Pacific, they receive significantly more snowfall than other ranges, creating a deep and stable maritime snowpack that Coastal British Columbia is famous for. The Skeena Mountains, by comparison, are colder and drier, producing lighter, lower-density powder with less low-level clouds.

Having access to both mountain ranges gives Last Frontier more options when conditions change. When storms bring cloud to the coast, guides can often head east into the Skeenas in search of clearer skies. Likewise, when Pacific systems deliver metres of fresh snow to the Coast Mountains, they can take full advantage of exceptionally deep powder. The result is greater snow reliability, fewer weather-related down days, and more opportunities to ski.

With hundreds of named runs across glaciers, alpine bowls, and gladed tree skiing—and new terrain continuing to be developed—Bell 2 offers an incredible variety of skiing that keeps even returning guests discovering something new.

Last Frontier operates on a guaranteed vertical program rather than an unlimited model.

Your trip includes a minimum amount of vertical based on the length of your stay and the time of season. December and January trips have lower guarantees due to shorter daylight hours, while February through April packages increase as skiable daylight extends.

Once you've reached your guaranteed vertical, you can continue skiing for CAD $66.50 per additional 1,000 vertical feet (CAD $218 per 1,000 vertical metres). Conversely, if weather or operational factors prevent your group from reaching the guaranteed amount, you're refunded at exactly the same rate.

We like the transparency of this model. It removes the risk of paying upfront for skiing you never receive, while still giving strong groups the opportunity to keep skiing if conditions are excellent. Once you've reached your guaranteed vertical, the choice is yours—you can call it a day or keep the helicopter flying for as long as your legs, the daylight, and your budget allow.

Over the past five seasons, guests have averaged approximately 150,000 vertical feet on a seven-day trip, with the biggest week reaching an incredible 261,975 vertical feet.

Safety is the foundation of every heli ski operation. Last Frontier operates with ACMG-certified guides and follows established industry standards for avalanche management, terrain selection, and mountain operations. Guests receive avalanche safety training and are equipped with essential rescue equipment, including avalanche transceivers, probes, shovels, and airbags. Last Frontier was also one of the first heli ski operators to make avalanche airbags mandatory for guests and guides, reflecting a proactive approach to managing backcountry risk.

Bell 2 is a purpose-built heli ski village located deep in northern British Columbia. Surrounded by the Coast and Skeena Mountains, the lodge offers a true remote mountain experience while maintaining the comforts expected from a world-class ski operation.

Built in a classic log chalet style using local timber, the lodge features comfortable guest rooms, each equipped with wood-burning soapstone stoves and cozy beds designed for relaxing after long days in the mountains. Single occupancy rooms are available for guests who prefer additional privacy.

The main lodge serves as the social hub of Bell 2, with a dining room, bar, games room, gift shop, front desk, and gathering spaces where guests share stories from the day over après and dinner. The recently renovated gear room provides a dedicated space to dry boots and equipment overnight, tune skis and snowboards, and prepare gear for the next day’s skiing. 

Outside, guests can unwind with a massage, enjoy the sauna and outdoor hot tub, or make use of the on-site fitness centre. WiFi is available throughout the lodge, although there is no cell service. A recently added portable sauna experience, set beside a frozen lake, offers a unique way to recover and enjoy the remote mountain setting after skiing. 

While skiing is the main attraction, Bell 2 is also well prepared for weather days. Guests can explore cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, fat biking routes, or enjoy activities such as skeet shooting and archery while waiting for the next weather window.

Food is an important part of the Bell 2 experience. In a remote mountain setting, Last Frontier has built a culinary program that goes well beyond simply fueling guests for the next ski day.

The kitchen focuses on fresh ingredients, locally sourced products where possible, and a strong emphasis on scratch-made preparation. Many staples are made in-house, including baked goods, granola, jams, ketchup, peanut butter, and smoked salmon. The result is a thoughtful mountain dining experience that feels personal and carefully crafted rather than simply convenient.

Breakfast is served buffet style, allowing guests to fuel up according to their own schedule before heading out for the day. Lunches are served in the field, giving guests the ability to maximize ski time while enjoying a well-prepared mountain meal.

After skiing, guests gather in the main lodge for après, sharing stories from the day, comparing photos, and enjoying dinner together while planning the next day's objectives. While beer and wine are available, alcohol is not included in the trip price.

Bell 2 offers a true remote heli ski experience while maintaining relatively straightforward access. Guests typically fly into Terrace, BC (YXT), where they are met by Last Frontier staff for the scenic ground transfer north to the lodge.

Trip lengths refer to the number of skiing days, not total calendar days. For example, a 5-day package typically runs over 6 calendar days.

Example: 5-Day Heli Ski Trip

Day 1: Arrive in Vancouver or Terrace and overnight.

Day 2: Last Frontier shuttle transfer departs Terrace at approximately 11:15 AM and arrives at Bell 2 Lodge around 4:00 PM. Guests complete check-in, equipment preparation, and safety briefing.

Days 3–6: Five full days of heli skiing.

Day 7 (Departure Day): Final skiing ends around 3:00 PM. Guests transfer back to Terrace, arriving in the evening, and overnight before departing the following morning.

For guests wanting to maximize time at the lodge, helicopter transfers into Bell 2 are also available for an additional cost, significantly reducing travel time.

Guests looking to add resort skiing before or after their heli trip have several options:

• Shames Mountain – The most convenient option, located near Terrace and ideal for a warm-up day.

• Hudson Bay Mountain, Whistler, or Mt. Baker – Better suited as multi-day additions before or after the heli trip.
